Climb hard, conquer the rough path, stand on the summit—and cool off under a waterfall.
What you'll do
Prepare for an unforgettable adventure to the top of Pedra da Gávea, the world’s largest monolithic block by the sea. This challenging hike is not for beginners, demanding significant physical effort, balance, and endurance.
We’ll meet at the entrance of Tijuca National Park – Pedra da Gávea Sector, where our ascent begins. The trail covers 1.67km on a constant incline over highly eroded terrain, requiring the strength of your entire body, not just your legs. We’ll make several stops to catch our breath and take in the evolving views.
Our first stop is at Pedra do Navio, offering panoramic views of Praia da Barra, the lagoons, and the West Zone. We’ll pass well-known points like Praça da Bandeira and Mirante da Laje before reaching the hike’s most critical section: the famous “carrasqueira“. This is an extremely challenging, approximately 30m stone wall that requires a “climb” using rock cracks, balance, and full-body strength.
After the adrenaline rush of the carrasqueira, a final push leads us to the summit’s plateau. Prepare for a moment of pure awe as you take in one of the most impressive views of Rio de Janeiro, coupled with the indescribable pleasure of having conquered this iconic peak! We’ll take our time to explore the entire Gávea peak.
The descent is as important and challenging as the climb, demanding focus and careful footwork. But your reward awaits at the end: a well-deserved waterfall bath!.
