Climb through the Atlantic Forest, spot wild animals, reach the hidden Garganta do Céu, and take in one of the most stunning views in Rio.
What you'll do
Embark on a unique adventure to Garganta do Céu (Heaven’s Throat), a spectacular natural cleft on the southeast face of Pedra da Gávea mountain, located within the Tijuca National Park. This experience offers one of Rio’s most exclusive and breathtaking viewpoints!
We’ll meet at the entrance to the Tijuca National Park – Pedra da Gávea Sector where our journey begins. We’ll hike approximately 2 km (1.25 miles) over about 85 minutes (depending on your group’s pace) on a constant uphill through the lush Atlantic Forest biome. We’ll go at a comfortable pace, with plenty of time to appreciate the vibrant nature around us. You’ll explore the beauties of our native flora, observing intricate vines, bromeliads, orchids, and countless other plants. With a bit of luck, we might even encounter some local wildlife, such as coatis, toucans, or monkeys – spotting a sloth is a rare treat!
The reward for our ascent is the Garganta do Céu viewpoint, situated at an altitude of 650 meters (2,132 feet). From this incredible spot, you’ll witness a breathtaking panorama, capturing São Conrado Beach, Dois Irmãos Hill, Arpoador Beach, the entire South Zone, and the vast Tijuca Forest, all framed perfectly in one unforgettable vista.
After soaking in these incredible views, we’ll begin our descent. Before leaving the park boundaries, we’ll make a refreshing stop at the Gávea waterfall to “wash our bodies and souls” (temperature permitting!). We’ll end the tour with beautiful memories and the certainty of a wonderful day spent outdoors, in full contact with nature.
